The UNA Poggio dei Medici Golf Resort
is home to Poggio dei Medici Golf Club, an 18 hole, par 73 course.
Built in the large grounds of a 16th century villa to USGA standards
and opened in 1995 it is recognised as the best course in
Tuscany
and among the finest in Italy. It is an International Championship
course and has a driving range with putting and pitching green and
shaded driving bays as well as an extensive practice area. It is
open all year, seven days per week and lessons with PGA Academy
Pros. are available.
Facilities include:
70 rooms, including 7 suites, many of which are located around the
course in restored farmhouses. Some have their own balcony or
garden. All the rooms have luxuriously appointed bathrooms, air
conditioning, satellite TV, minibar, telephone, hair dryer bathrobes
and electronic safe. There is also a large restaurant for up to 120
guests and 4 meeting rooms for between 10 - 80 people.
The resort also boasts an outdoor swimming pool
with jacuzzi, spa centre with Turkish bath and spa treatments,
lobby, reception and pro shop.
Located just 25kms from Florence it offers golfers and non golfers
alike alternative options for enjoying Tuscany. From cookery lessons
in a medieval castle to a visit to the Ferrari test track close by.
It is within easy reach of Florence airport (35 mins)and other
options include Bologna (75 mins) and Pisa airports (1.5 hrs).
The beautiful golf course was designed by Italian
champion Baldovino Dassu and architect Alvise Rossi Fioravanti. They
have shown a great deal of imagination in the way they have used the
terrain, contoured the fairways and greens and brought hazards into
play, namely rough, sand and water. It is an 18 hole par 72 course
built according to the U.S.G.A. (United Sates Golf Association)
standards and is an International Championship course and was the
venue for the Italian Ladies Open held here between 1999 - 2003. The
driving range, complete with pitching and putting greens offers
shaded driving bays and an extensive practice area. Golf carts and
clubs are available to rent.
The course suits both beginners as well as expert players who enjoy
playing at high competitive levels. Private lessons and clinic for
beginners are also available with resident PGA Academy pros.
